In 2004, Vitter spokeswoman Tonya Newman blamed prostitute allegations on hard feelings from Vincent Bruno, who supported Vitter’s 1999 congressional opponent. 2007: Vitter Admitted To “Very Serious Sin.” On July 9, 2007, Hustler Magazine informed Vitter’s office that the Senator appeared on the call list of the DC Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, and Vitter came forward with a statement admitting his involvement with the prostitution ring. He said, “This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there with God and them.
