David Vitter just can’t tell the truth on healthcare. Vitter claimed that Charlie Melancon supported a government-run health insurance plan:

Times-Picayune: Melancon “Opposed a Public Option.” According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune in 2009, Melancon “opposed a public option, and voted against the House Energy and Commerce health care bill that included it.”  [Times-Picayune, 9/13/09]

Melancon: “I Can’t Support a Government-Run Insurance Option that the People of Louisiana Don’t Want.” According to a Melancon statement in 2009, Melancon opposed the public option, saying, “I can’t support a government-run insurance option that the people of Louisiana don’t want.”  [Melancon press release, 11/7/09]

Times-Picayune: Melancon Voted Against Healthcare Bill because it Included a Public Option. According to the Times-Picayune, Charlie Melancon voted against the healthcare reform bill passed by the House, saying “I can’t support a government-run insurance option that the people of Louisiana don’t want.”  [Times Picayune, 11/7/09]
